Police seize drugs from foreigners at Sziget
Police have seized hundreds of tablets suspected to be drugs from two foreign nationals on the grounds of the Sziget Festival currently underway in northern Budapest's Obuda island, the police website reported on Wednesday.
Altogether 512 tablets were taken from a 23-year-old Nigerian man and another 29 silver foil packs were seized from a 25-year-old Liberian man, they said.
A house search in the Nigerian man's rented home in central Budapest revealed 940 grammes of tablets, police said.
A pre-trial detention of both men has been initiated.
Gyorgy Lasz, the chief of security at the festival, told MTI that they had frequented patrols across the festival venue to eliminate drug crimes. Security staff work in close cooperation with police, he added.
Police also reported that a 45-year-old man had been taken into custody for stealing the back-packs of eight foreign nationals near the festival venue.
In the first two days of the festival, petty crimes such as theft from tents and pick-pocketing have been reported to police.
