Police say thefts down at Budapest airport
Investigations involving thefts at Budapest international Ferihegy airport dropped an annual 50 percent in January this year, the airport police (RRI) chief told reporters on Wednesday.
Half of the thefts, 94 instances, were reported in the luggage sorting area, 34 in the passenger lounges and 14 aboard aircraft, said Jozsef Dus.
"Tricky thefts" committed by a pair of thieves became more common in 2008, said RRI department head Monika Novaky, adding that investigations were launched in 13 such cases against mostly Albanian and Romanian nationals.
The number of all crimes at the airport totalled 341 last year, down four percent from 2007, RRI said.
