Police rape suspects refuse lie detector test
At least two of the five Budapest policemen suspected for the rape of a young woman do not agree to a polygraphic lie detector test, said Attila Morvai, the spokesperson for the Budapest Prosecutors' Office.
According to hirado.hu, three of the five suspects have sent their statements to the Prosecutors' Office, and only one of those three would agree to the test if the head investigator required one. Morvai said this is yet to be decided. He also said that results of the DNA test ordered in the case are to arrive on Thursday or Friday.
The five suspects, all of them members of the Police Security Service (Rebisz), were placed under preliminary arrest on May 19 for raping a 21-year-old woman on Múzeum körút on May 4. All of them deny the crime.
Hungarian law specify that a person cannot be subjected to a polygraphic test unless they agree to it. Courts can later decide whether or not to use the test results in the proceedings.
