Police prepare for gay parade
Police will adopt special security measures at Saturday's gay parade in Budapest. The 14th Gay Dignity Parade will cap a week of gay programmes which have been under special protection and have been trouble-free so far.
Police will isolate the gay parade to prevent any counter demonstrators from getting within throwing distance. Budapest Police will close off Heroes Square, Andrássy út and surrounding streets, Dózsa György út, part of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, Oktogon, part of Nagykörút and Deák tér, where parking will be banned from Friday.
The event will proceed along Andrássy út to Erzsébet tér from 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Extremists are certain to attempt to disrupt the parade. Far-right party Jobbik in the summer agreed to thwart the parade with several “national radical” organisations.
