Police preparing to implement new tactics against violent protesters
Police are preparing to implement a new strategy for dealing with any possible street violence during the October 23 commemorations of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution taking place in various venues in Budapest, national daily Nepszabadsag said on Monday.
Police are anticipating that a variety of groups - some anti-government demonstrators and others soccer hooligans - will take to the streets on the national holiday. Many simply will be out to create mayhem.
During past events of a similar nature the troublemakers gathered at various points in the city in order to divide police forces and police tried to disperse illegal demonstrations by chasing them. The troublemakers would then regroup elsewhere.
Police are expected to use a new tactic during the upcoming holiday, encircling them, getting details of their identity, and letting them go one by one. Anyone suspected of having violated the law will be taken into custody immediately.
