Police officer gets jail term for rioting
The military council of the Municipal Court yesterday sentenced an off-duty police officer who took part in the assault on MTV headquarters to three and a half years in prison. The verdict is subject to appeal.
According to rtlklub.hu, the 29-year-old former officer did not deny participating in the assault and throwing stones at his colleagues, but he could not explain his actions. "The demonstration got aggressive and I joined in," he said. He later apologized to his colleagues.
Meanwhile, Pest Central District Court sentenced a rioter to two and a half years and an accomplice to two years and ten months for their part in disturbances and for assaulting police.
