Police officer imprisoned for beating man during 2006 protests
A member of the riot police unit most heavily criticized for its role in the street violence of September 2006 has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for causing serious injury to a protester.
The Rebisz officer repeatedly kicked a man lying on the ground in handcuffs. It later transpired that the victim, who suffered cracked vertebrae, had not participated in the violent protests, writes Hírszerző.hu. He is the first officer to be sentenced to imprisonment.
