Policemen are currently following trams running in front of the Parliament building in Budapest due to fears that the fences put in place around the adjacent square would be forcibly removed with the help of trams or trucks, MTI reports.

According to a message posted on an unidentified website, anti-government demonstrators planned to attach ropes to the metal barriers around Kossuth tér and then secure the lines to the bumpers of tram cars running on the No. 2 line.

Groups of four police officers are patrolling the cordon, recording the scene with video cameras and requesting identification from individuals and drivers of trucks passing the fence.

Budapest Police Spokesperson Tibor Jármy said that "public safety [efforts] were and are being performed," but refused to reveal any more details.
