Police chief removed in corruption case
The chief of police of Budapest's Csepel Island has been removed from his post following an investigation into charges that he improperly interfered with an ongoing investigation, origo.hu reports.
According to the report, the case involves the police search of a house belonging to an acquaintance of Mihály Császár in September of last year.
Császár is suspected of having contacted officers and urged them to overlook any evidence discovered in the search.
While a spokesperson of the Budapest Police Department confirmed that there was a connection between the case and Császár's dismissal, the secretary of the Csepel police department said Császár was unable to comment as he is currently ill. However, Császár has previously denied he is guilty of any misconduct.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have similarly denied media suggestions that the case was linked to a previous double murder in Csepel.
