Police arrest airport workers for theft
Police have arrested two workers at Budapest's Ferihegy international airport after they were spotted stealing 300 boxes of cigarettes while loading baggage, an airport police official told MTI on Monday.
An airport spokesman said that workers there must pass strict security screening, and stealing items of small value carried high risk. Most theft attempts take place in the loading area, which is not controlled by cameras.
The airport has stepped up security for the busy summer season and closely monitors such cases, the spokesman's statement said.
During the summer, however, passengers at the airport are also prey to opportunist thieves and police have given warning to stay vigilant and keep valuables on their person rather than packing them in luggage.
