The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is engaged with the police in talks on the location of a free ice rink. In recent years one was installed outside Parliament in Kossuth tér, but this year other sites are being considered. The PMO wants to open the ice rink from December 23 to January 2, as in the past.

However Budapest Police spokesman Tibor Jármy told Magyar Hírlap that the police "want to maintain the operational area classification in the square for as long as security considerations warrant it. Police decided a few days ago to call the square an operational area for an indefinite time period," he explained.
