Plans for renovation of Budapest bridge announced
The repair of Budapest's Margit híd, beginning in next winter, will take 18 months and cost more than Ft 12 billion (€4,800,000), writes fn.hu.
The middle curve of the bridge will be cut, so the bridge will become straight. The pillars, statues and lower curves will be illuminated by floodlights, and a bicycle path will be attached to the Northern sidewalk. The traffic lanes will be widened, and the underpass will be replaced by a crosswalk leading to Margit-sziget. During the construction, number 4 and 6 trams will run on temporary, suspended tracks.
