Pécs drops plans to host Sting concert
Plans by the city of Pecs to host a concert by Sting this year as part of its European Capital of Culture programme of have been dropped because no suitable date or venue could be found, MTI was told by a source close to the organisers on Monday.
Sting planned to perform with the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra but the earliest date that he is available would be in November. The weather will be too cold by November for an open-air event and Pecs has not got an indoor venue that would be suitable for such a large event, the source said.
The organisers declined to comment. The head of the Pecs2010 Management Centre said talks were under way with several star guests.
According to MTI's information, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Seal have been mentioned as possible star guests.
A concert by U2 was originally planned as one of the year's main attractions but it was deserted after no suitable venue was found for the band.
