Pécs cracks down on public drinking, smoking
Smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public areas will be banned in Pécs from January 1, the city council decided last week. Violators will be liable for a fine of up to Ft 30,000.
No smoking will be allowed within 50 metres of cultural, educational, or health institutions or churches, nor at bus stops or in playgrounds.
It will also be forbidden to consume alcohol in those public areas.
Exceptions to the rule will be areas outside street vendors, as well as at official events announced in advance to the authorities where alcohol may be consumed.
Smoking in the streets is already banned in Dombóvár, Hódmezővásárhely, Kaposvár and Szekszárd.
