Not just classical, but rock, jazz, reggae, Gypsy and world music are on the Hungarian city of Pecs's European Capital of Culture programme in 2010.

The city will host Pecs University Days from April 21 to 24. On the festival programme are foreign acts such as The Toasters and Tito and Tarantula as well as the Hungarian bands Eric Sumo Band, the Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra, Kiscsillag and Zuboly.

A series of Gypsy music concerts will start in April. On the lineup are Bela Szakcsi Lakatos Jr, Varadi Roma Cafe and the Rajko Orchestra.

The Batta Dem – 5th Pecs International Reggae Festival - will take place from May 20 to 22. Performances by White Vibration, Ladanybene 27 and Zagastic will take place.

About 80 bands will perform at the annual Fishing on Orfu festival, at a lake near Pecs, from June 17 to 19. Among them will be some of Hungary's best known acts, such as Quimby, Kispal es a Borz, Little Cow and Budapest Bar.

Folk and Roll, a pop music festival with talent scout and training programmes, will come to Pecs on June 25-26. New talent will also be highlighted at the Local Heroes Yourope – International Talent Scout Contest and Conference that Pecs will host at the end of November.

During the Privatelektro Open-Air Headphone Festival, on June 17-21, visitors to Pecs's Culture Garden can listen to the music of 25 artists who represent the latest musical trends in Central Europe over headphones. Similar festivals will take place in Istanbul and Essen, which are sharing the European Capital of Culture title with Pecs in 2010.

Musicians representing the culture and countries of all three culture capitals will tour in June and July.
