Passenger traffic normal as airport strike continues
Despite the ongoing strike by security and ground staff, there are no disruptions to passenger traffic at Budapest's international Ferihegy airport, spokesman for airport operator Budapest Airport Domokos Szollar told MTI on Friday morning.
All four security checkpoints are operating in terminal 2B, and no queues have been reported from the transit security gate either, he said.
The unions started a strike for an indefinite period nine days ago with the demand for better working conditions, a new collective agreement and a halt to further layoffs.
Although the positions of the unions and management appear to have drawn closer, important issues still remain unresolved.
Representatives of two unions, LESZ and RDSZSZ, said the latest draft of the management's proposal was broadly acceptable, bar a few "legal loopholes" and some "missing guarantees".
Szollar said management would be ready to sign a strike agreement extending the validity of the current collective agreement until the end of March, leaving more time for bargaining about the details.
