Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány's explosive speech to Socialist MPs in May was probably recorded in a studio by a cable directly connected to his microphone, Népszabadság reports.

Professional experts investigating the matter say the sound quality is so high that the speech could not have been recorded by anyone in the room. Media experts agree that the person who edited the most quoted 58 seconds of the speech was a professional.

Gyurcsány opines that the tape was not leaked by any MPs, said Imre Eredics, head of the party's Győr chapter, after meeting Gyurcsány yesterday, Kossuth Rádió reported.

The government resort at Balatonőszöd, where Gyurcsány made the speech, is a closely guarded establishment.

A CD was taken first to Magyar Rádió, which broadcast excerpts on September 17, and then other CDs containing the speech were taken to other media outlets.

Before Magyar Rádió received the tape, a CD with the speech on it was offered for sale, but there were no takers. The price would have been over €100,000, according to Népszabadság.

It is still unclear who had an interest in releasing the recording. The investigation is not yet over.
