Some 23,000 visitors have seen 19th-century painter Mihály Munkácsy’s crucifixion trilogy on display in the Art Gallery of Pécs since the end of April.

Foreign visitors account for 5-10% of those who have viewed the series Ecce Homo, Golgotha and Christ Before Pilate on loan to Pécs for the city’s year as a Cultural Capital of Europe.

The three paintings are owned separately by Hajdú county, art collector Imre Pákh and the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ontario.
