Oscar-winning Hungarian filmmaker to head European directors
Film director István Szabó was elected president of the European Film Directors Federation in Dublin on Monday. The organisation, formed in Venice in 1980, is a grouping of 32 organisations from 28 countries.
Szabó was awarded a Best Foreign Film Oscar for Mephisto in 1982, and his other successes include Colonel Redl, Hanussen, Meeting Venus, Being Julia and Relatives. His Sunshine was awarded a European Film Prize in 1999.
