Opposition slams progress of Budapest's new metro line
The Budapest faction the opposition Christian Democratic party (KDNP) has launched a scathing critique of the city's management of the planned Metro 4, claiming that poor planning has allowed costs to balloon 50%, from Ft 233 billion (roughly €913.5 million) to Ft 354 billion.
KDNP faction leader Gábor Bagdy said that half of the expected cost overrun is a result of faulty preparation and organization.
He added that it is still not clear where the terminus of the new line will be, whether the second phase that would reach Bosnyák tér (District XIV) will be completed and how the ambitious projected will ultimately be funded.
Bagdy also called it "worrying" that the man who was recently fired from the position of project manager of the M4 had been given the important task of re-examining the contracts between the city and the contractors.
