Fidesz has 62% support among decided party voters, up from 52% last month, while support for the Socialists fell from 35% to 28%, according to a survey by Szonda Ipsos.

The Free Democrats saw their support drop from 5% to 3%, and the Democratic Forum also lost some popularity, falling from 7% to 5%. Other parties had 2% support.

Szonda Ipsos said recent weeks saw a powerful rise in undecided voters to 40% from 33%. Among all eligible voters 35% support Fidesz, and 16% the Socialists.

Szonda Ipsos research director Tibor Závecz told Népszabadság that the difference between the two major parties was even greater in the summer of 1998 after Fidesz had won the parliamentary elections.

The latest representative survey of 1,500 adults was conducted April 17-24. The margin of error is 2.5%.
