Opposition politician announces resignation on his blog
Péter Várbíró, president of the Pécs chapter of opposition party MDF, announced in his blog that he would resign due to the bad performance of his party in the recent local elections.
"We expected more; we were defeated. And not just because we could not form a coalition, but also because Pécs prefers liberal to conservative values," he wrote.
Várbíró will officially announce his resignation on Thursday, when final results of the elections are made public. He expressed his hopes that the party will be able to renew itself in the upcoming term.
