Opposition leader talks of "tyranny" in Hungarian government

"Hungary's heartbeat says only these words: enough is enough," Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán told a crowd of 1,000-1,200 invited guests at a rally on Hajógyári sziget Tuesday afternoon. Orbán gave an assessment of the state of the nation on the first anniversary of the leaking to the media of Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány's Balatonőszöd speech.

Orbán described the Gyurcsány cabinet as the weakest government in Europe: "it is weak, as it misled voters with lies and deception.

"The coalition is desperately clinging to power by all means possible and will lie again as they did two years ago when they said, prosperity is high, the economy is booming and the whole of Europe envies the Pannon puma," Orbán opined.

Orbán claimed that more austerity measures are in the offing as "they want to again raise hospital visit and inpatient charges and tuition fees, energy prices and taxes." He claimed that "now is the time to act, and the poor, those lagging behind and the middle classes must make an historical alliance to restore popular power, as the government is now positioned outside the area of democracy, on the border of tyranny. It is the task of the new majority to lead Hungarians out of this crisis," he added.

Socialist Party spokesman István Nyakó said "Orbán sang an old song but did not come up with a platform."
