Opening times and traffic regulations on Hungarian holiday
Hungary will celebrate a national holiday on Saturday, March 15, which will mean changes to opening times and traffic regulations.
Every year on March 15, Hungary marks the day in 1848 when a revolution which later became a failed war of independence against Austrian rule began. This year, the day falls on a Saturday, which means workers will not receive an extra day off, however, stores, banks and offices will generally follow Sunday opening times.
All museum exhibitions, including temporary and permanent, will be free on the holiday.
Budapest's baths and swimming pools will also follow Sunday opening times, reports Népszava. Széchenyi Bath will be open until 5 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.
According to origo.hu, parking will not be permitted at many locations in downtown Budapest, and several squares and roads will be closed, including Kossuth Lajos tér, the Széchényi embankment and parts of Alkotmány and Szalay utcas. Traffic will not be allowed to enter these areas from early morning until 4 p.m. In addition, the Chain Bridge (Lánchíd) and Roosevelt tér will be closed off from traffic for the day.
Due to commemoration events to be held in the city, Múzeum körút will be closed between Kálvin tér and Astoria for several hours. In addition, traffic will not be allowed to enter the area enclosed by Múzeum körút, Rákóczi út, Szentkirályi utca and Reviczky utca, and roads in the vicinity of the Palace of Arts (Művészetek Palotája) and the Pest end of the Lágymányosi Bridge will be closed as well.
