One-third of food on Hungarian market may be illegal
According to Attila Boródi, president of the National Association of Food Processors (Élelmiszer-feldolgozók Országos Szövetsége), around 30% of food products get into the Hungarian market illegally.
Boródi told inforadio.hu that based on experiences of the past two years, the product-tracking system does not work properly in the country, and some companies do not pay taxes.
Boródi added that these shortcomings made it possible for the M.E.G.A. Trade group to market expired food items. He pointed out that in principle, every company in the product chain should verify the origins of food.
Similar shortcomings can also be seen in the market for cosmetic products, Boródi said.
