Number of crimes, victims significantly drops at Sziget
The number crimes committed and the number of victims dropped significantly compared to previous years at the 18th Sziget Festival held on Obuda island in northern Budapest last week, the Budapest police headquarters reported on Monday.
The number of crimes dropped to 183 from last year's 290. There were six car burglaries, three car thefts, 67 cases of pickpocketing and 106 cases of theft from tents. Some eight people were arrested for alleged drug abuse. Police apprehended a total of 42 people.
As many as a thousand police patroled the festival that attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors, many of whom had arrived from abroad.
Two French, two Dutch, two British and two German police assisted their Hungarian colleagues on the festival grounds.
