Number of Chinese tourists visiting Hungary doubles
The number of Chinese tourists visiting Hungary has doubled in the last two years. Hungary has enjoyed permitted destination status for Chinese citizens since 2004, which has made travelling to Hungary significantly easier.
According to Balázs Szűcs, deputy chief executive officer of Hungarian Tourism Ltd (Magyar Turizmus Zrt.), 11,000 Chinese tourists visited Hungary in 2004, but this figure had doubled by 2006. He said that visitors are particularly interested in architecture, music and the European shopping possibilities, but admitted that they do not like Hungarian food.
