On Sunday afternoon, an earthquake of magnitude 2.9 on the Richter scale hit Hollókő (Nógrád County) around three o'clock. Six of the village's 200 homes and five buildings owned by the local government were mildly damaged.

The earthquake frightened locals, as people left their houses to go to the streets, but it lasted for only five to six seconds, without causing any injuries.

National Directorate General for Disaster Protection (Országos Katasztrófavédelmi Főigazgatóság, OKF) spokesman Tibor Dobson said that earthquakes of similar magnitude frequently occur in Hungary, but usually do not cause any harm or danger.
