No US visa needed for Hungarians from November
Hungarians will be able to travel to the US without requiring visas from November, state news agency MTI reported, citing diplomatic sources.
US ambassador April Foley announced Tuesday afternoon that the number of rejected Hungarian visa applications dipped below the maximum permissible 10% last year to 8%. Now, only approval by Parliament is required for the visa waiver pact to enter into force.
The US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will visit the region and Hungary in late October. A source seeking anonymity said the US promises to have the passenger registry system fully operational by November, thereby removing all obstacles to visa-free travel. Hungarians will be able to stay in the US without a visa for up to 90 days.
