New national stadium proposed
The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) has welcomed a decision by the parliamentary committee for sports and tourism to build a new national sports stadium on the site of the Puskás Ferenc Stadium in Budapest's District XIV, reports ingatlanmenedzser.hu. The organization had earlier said it wanted to built a stadium on Fehér út in District X.
Following a unanimous decision by the committee, MLSZ Head Secretary Gábor Elbert said the federation would support building the facility on the site of the old stadium, if resources were available. However, since this problem has been around for years, the MLSZ should also consider other alternatives, he added.
The MLSZ announced early last month that it was planning a 31,000-seat new football center t be known as the Hungarian National Football Arena to be built on a 6.6-hectare plot currently under state management on Fehér út by 2010. Plans have been completed, and the total cost of construction, which will be paid in full by the federation, is Ft 11.5 billion (over €44.5 million).
