New Hungarian biofuel invention to cut gas bills by two thirds
Hungarian inventor Péter Kiss has developed a "home bio gas reactor," which can provide household heating and electricity at a cost of not more than Ft 12,000 a month, reports mno.hu. The appliance is expected to be available from the fall at a cost of Ft 1.1 million (roughly €4,400), the inventor said.
More than two million Hungarian homes use separate gas heating. A typical, 100-square-meter house and built-in loft requires 3,000 cubic meters of gas during the winter season, which costs - without subsidy - Ft 300,000 (€1,200). Using the "home bio gas reactor," costs can be reduced to a third.
The appliance can produce ten to 50 cubic meters of gas per day from 100 liters of water and 40 kilograms of organic matter. It is optimal to use green maize (silókukorica), which produces at least 30 cubic meters of gas per day, at a cost of only Ft 10 per kilogram. According to plans, the maize will be delivered to users if they order it, which means operating the reactor will cost Ft 12,000 (€48) per month at most. For those who produce their own biomass, it will cost nothing.
The appliance can also produce 7,000 kWh of electricity a year (that is 20 kWh a day), which is enough for washing, washing up, lighting and even two hours in the sauna. The inventor added that the appliance can fit into a two-meter tall and 1.5-meter wide space.
