SCD Holding Interfruct Ltd is planning to establish a new network of smaller food stores in Hungary, said executive director István Bránát in a conference yesterday. The chain hopes to offer an alternative to the out-of-town hypermarket giants that dominate the retail market.

The new chain called RIA will include smaller companies that have not yet signed up with any other of the country's other major food store chains. The project starts in September and by the end of the year, 80 traders are expected to join. It is hoped that this will boost the sales of Interfruct products by two to three percent.

Interfruct believes its new bonus system and marketing strategy will prove attractive to those smaller outlets that have not joined other chains because of their aggressive policies.
