New anti-riot tactic by Budapest police proves effective
The new police tactic used on October 23 did not leave rioters with a chance, security expert Péter Tarjáni told Népszabadság.
When smaller groups gathered, police officers sealed them off and checked identity cards, thus any potential rioters could not bring dangerous implements to the events. The police has abandoned using police lines, which had provoked potential rioters in the past, Tarjáni added. The tactic is nonetheless risky since all small groups must be swiftly identified and sealed off, he added.
