"Nature Photographer of the Year" announced
The winners of the "Nature Photographer of the Year 2006" contest were announced at the Natural History Museum on Thursday, November 23. The "Nature Photograph of the Year" award was presented to Tibor Dombovári for his photo entitled "Portrait of the old barracuda." The "Nature Photographer of the Year" is Bence Máté, and the "Young Nature Photographer of the Year" is István Zsíros. The year's best nature photos are exhibited at the cupola of the museum located on Ludovika tér until December 6, after which the exhibiton will travel around the country.
The Association of Hungarian Nature Photographers (Magyar Természetfotósok Szövetsége) organized the contest for the 11th time this year. The categories were "Landscapes," "Birds," "Plants," "Mammals," "Life under water," "From Dawn until Dusk," "Composition, Form and Experimenting" and "Story," and there was a separate category for young photographers.
Twenty-year-old Bence Máté, who was competing among junior photographers, did very well in six categories, and won the first and second places in the "Story" category. István Zsíros won first place in the "Junior" category with his photograph entitled "Flap of wings."
A total of 98 photographers were competing for the "Nature Photographer of the Year" award and submitted 2,424 photos. Of these, 138 are exhibited at the museum. Compared to last year, a larger number of digital photos were submitted; only one-third of contest entries were captured on film.
