Museum of Hungarian language to be opened in Széphalom
Plans have been unveiled to build a unique museum aimed at acquainting visitors with the culture of the Hungarian language in Széphalom, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. This is the hometown of Ferenc Kazinczy, a Hungarian author from the second half of the 18th century famous for his role in the regeneration of the Hungarian language.
The project is financed from national and European Union funds, and will cost over Ft 400 million (€1.461 million) and cover an area of 1,500 square meters. The museum will include documentats, voice and video recordings, as well as an auditorium, exhibition halls, a language research center, a bookshop, and a café.
József Fehér, director of the Kazinczy Museum, also in Széphalom, said: "The younger generation has visited very many uninteresting museums, so we've been planning a form of virtual environment right from day one. At the push of a button, the 'Funeral Sermon and Prayer' (the oldest complete text in the Hungarian language, from the end of the13th century) and the 'Old Hungarian Laments of Mary' (the oldest known complete Hungarian poem also from the 13th century) will be heard. With the use of computers and projectors, visitors will be able to explore, see and hear a lot more. The park will contain the family trees of all languages that influenced the Hungarian language to create a small plantation."
The Foundation for the Museum of the Hungarian Language has already started work, and the foundation stone of the museum has already been laid.
