Most railway services in operation despite sympathy strike
Most services throughout Hungary are operating despite a sympathy strike announced by railway union VDSZSZ to take place between 4am and 8am on Thursday to show solidarity with an ongoing strike by employees of the Budapest transport company (BKV), a company spokesman said.
A few services have been omitted on the Budapest-Esztergom and the Budapest-Vac line and there are delays in the area of Miskolc because the Tisza railway station cannot receive trains, Mavinform's Karoly Peiper said. Delays should be expected on the Miskolc and Szeged lines, he added.
Trains in Budapest are running with 1-2-minute delays but this is not connected to the strike, Peiper said. Arrivals and departures at Budapest railway stations were undisturbed, with only one train omitted before 6am, he added.
VDSZSZ spokesman Laszlo Gelencser told MTI that legal steps will be taken against the railway company because many of the employees on duty had been asked before 4am whether they would participate in the strike and were told that in this case they would be replaced. This is against the law, he added.
