The small town of Mogyoród is planning a series of investments that will keep tourists in the area longer before and after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Plans include a 4-star, 200-room wellness hotel to be completed by 2009. The town, which has a population of 6,000, is located 18 kilometers from the Hungarian capital of Budapest and has been hosting the Hungarian Grand Prix for over 20 years. Its residents and leaders would like to benefit more from the races on the Hungaroring which make their hometown attractive to tourists but also cause a great deal of inconvenience for locals.

Mogyoród Mayor László Babicz said that the Hungaroring is in use 240 days a year and that the noise from the tracks is what disturbs locals the most. At the same time, nobody questions the importance of Formula 1, as the biggest taxpayer in the town is the company operating the race track.

Benefiting from tourists is not that easy, because most of them choose to stay in Budapest when they visit the race. Babicz said this is why a decision was made last year to focus on two main areas: sports and wine tourism. He also said that the town will co-operate with the Mogyoród Aquaréna, Central Europe's largest aquapark, the tennis center currently under construction and the nearby towns of Gödöllő and Fót.

Meanwhile, Kistracsa, another town in the region, is also planning to construct motels and hotels to benefit from the Formula 1 roadshow. The town currently has no accommodation for tourists but experiences considerably more traffic on Grand Prix weekends.
