Ministry of health withdraws HIV testing bus support
The department of health has withdrawn all financial support from the mobile HIV testing bus used by more than 500 prostitutes since the beginning of the year.
The Interest Protection Organization of Prostitutes (PÉE) would like to continue to operate the HIV testing bus with the help of tenders. PÉE President Ágnes Földi believes the program has been a success. More prostitutes were tested during the first six months of 2006 than in the previous six years.
The Ministry of Health argues that many of its funds were withdrawn due to the state budget deficit. In addition, funds previously made available for HIV testing at the Sziget Festival, as well as for the operation of a dental clinic for HIV and hepatitis patients at Szent László Hospital are no longer available.
