Memorial to 1956 uprising defaced in Budapest
A memorial to Hungary's 1956 anti-Soviet uprising in Budapest's City Park (Városliget) was defaced with red paint sometime before Wednesday morning, reports hvg.hu. Chargest have been filed against an unknown individual for willful damage to public property.
The policemen arriving at the scene saw the memorial covered in unintelligible writing, with a drawing of a star of David clearly visible in the center, said István Benes of the District XIV Police.
The damage to the statue is repairable, as the surface of the memorial is acid-resistant, so the paint can be easily removed.
