M0 opening unlikely to relieve Budapest traffic problems
The Eastern section of the M0 motorway will be opened to traffic on September 16, linking the M3 motorway to the ring, however, the mayor's office thinks this will not solve traffic problems in Budapest, writes vezess.hu.
Budapest residents expect that the opening of the new road will relieve constant traffic jams in the city and lessen truck traffic on Hungária körút, but the mayor's office does not expect this to happen. The head of the traffic department told television channel RTL Klub: "It will be a bit better, but not as good by far as many people expect." The department head thinks the city's roads are too overloaded for the bypass to solve the problem. In addition, in January, Margit híd (Margaret Bridge) will also be closed for reconstruction.
