Mayor of Budapest district returns to parking battle
Fifth District mayor Antal Rogán announced Monday that a grace period has ended and from now on drivers who park their car free of charge in the Health Ministry car park will be fined. Just to show he meant business, meter men distributed red parking tickets to waiting cars before the press briefing.
Rogán, of Fidesz, referred to a Monday prosecutor's office ruling that the area belongs to the district and that the local council is entitled to demand fees for its use, although not retroactively. "If fees are collected from ordinary people retroactively, why should a ministry be an exception?" Rogán asked.
