Hungary's Matra Museum offers the second richest natural science exhibition in the country in the eastern town of Gyongyos, the Culture Minister said, opening the museum on Tuesday.

Istvan Hiller said that after Budapest's Science Museum, the Matra Museum houses Hungary's exhibits in a 2.2 hectare English Park, housing the new Science Pavilion, with an 800 square metre pond.

The three-storey museum guides visitors through the stages of the evolution and has a special focus on the flora and fauna of the Matra hills region.

The builders used materials which were environmentally fitting to the region, including Borov Pine, granite and natural stones. The ground floor showcases Hungary's largest collection of snails, as well as a significant insect collection.

The Palm House has tropical amphibians and aquariums full of exotic fish.
