Margaret Bridge to close in spring for reconstruction
The Ft 13 billion upgrade of Margit híd (Margaret Bridge) will begin in the spring, and the bridge will be closed to traffic, with the exception of trams, for 18 months, mayor Gábor Demszky announced on Friday.
Demszky said 2009 will be a year of contradictions, as a number of EU-funded projects are underway and the solvency of Budapest is satisfactory, but the sum of local taxes may drop due to the financial crisis.
Deputy mayor Imre Ikvai-Szabó said the capital's debt stock totals Ft 154 billion, excluding the Ft 28 billion loan from the European Development Bank.
