Large Budapest demonstration planned for October 4
A civic group is organizing a large demonstration in Budapest for Saturday, October 4, to protest against violence and social exclusion, reports hirtv.hu.
Organizers of the protest action - called Tarka Magyar ("Medley Magyar") - want to express their disapproval of all forms of violence, including recent attacks against minorities.
It is expected that 100,000 people will participate in a peaceful march from Hősök tere along Andrássy út.
The demonstration comes on the heels of a similar event that saw right-wing protesters attack participants in a "non-violence" march.
The organizers of the upcoming march think most street demonstrations are motivated by the desire for political power, so they are asking politicians to stay away from their event, while at the same time saying it is the fault of lawmakers that violent groups run unchecked.
