Kossuth tér could become Hungary's biggest playground
Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány has contacted Fifth District mayor Antal Rogán to find a way to resolve the status of Kossuth tér.
Talks on the matter are likely after Rogán wrote to Gyurcsány, Budapest mayor Gábor Demszky and Speaker Katalin Szili suggesting that the ownership of the square be transferred from Budapest city council to the Fifth District. He proposed that the square be converted into Hungary's biggest playground.
Demszky is open for talks on the issue, and will meet Szili on Thursday and Rogán on Friday, City Hall spokesman Krisztián Nyáry told Népszabadság.
Parliament also wants to obtain ownership rights of the square, said finance director Emil Bakos, adding that one option would be to build an underground garage.
