Kossuth radio listeners name their favorite places in Hungary
National radio station Kossuth Rádió has closed a six-month poll to find its listeners' favorite locations in Hungary.
Based on votes cast by listeners of free time program "Útitárs," the southeastern town of Gyula came in first in two categories, "The Most Flowery Town" and "The Most Lovable Town."
The most exciting wine route is in Villány, the most hospitable town is Tarján, and Hódmezővásárhely is the favorite among cyclists.
The poll has revealed that the country's most beautiful main square is in Kecskemét, and the most spectacular railway route is between Veszprém and Győr which leads through the Cuha Valley. The most beautiful village on the shore of Lake Balaton is Balatongyörök.
Voters declared the most exciting forest railway to be the Kemence Forest Museum Railway and the most attractive palace to be Keszthely's Helikon Palace Museum.
Fans of hiking named the Nógrád County village of Kozárd as their "paradise," while winter tourists said the most beautiful resort was Mátraszentimre. The prettiest forested area in the country is the Bükk National Park, while the best zoo is in Nyíregyháza's Sóstó Zoo.
Hungary's most beautiful railway station is in Békéscsaba, the most pleasant pedestrian street is Szeged's Kárász utca, and the prettiest waterside town is Balatonfüred.
