Judge asks for Fidesz MPs' immunity to be lifted
A Pest Central District Court judge has asked Prosecutor General Tamás Kovács to suspend the right to immunity of the Fidesz MPs who dismantled the metal fence around Kossuth tér on February 2. Budapest Police filed a complaint against Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán and 79 fellow MPs on suspicion of disturbance of order three days later.
Prosecutor's office spokesman Zoltán Borbély said the office has no role in the matter, as the MPs can waive their right to immunity and the procedure can continue.
Fidesz deputy spokesman András Cser-Palkovics said the MPs will waive their right to immunity in all proceedings and acknowledge the final outcomes of inquiries.
He said the dismantling of the fence was an act of civil disobedience aimed at terminating an unconstitutional state of affairs, and the MPs and MEPs did not violate the law.
