Interview shows PM is "pathological," says psychologist
In an interview with InfoRadio, psychologist Erzsébet Németh called Ferenc Gyurcsány's communication style "pathological."
Commenting on the interview given by the prime minister to CNN, Németh said: "A person with a normal personality would be embarrassed when held responsible for his lies. Ferenc Gyurcsány, on the other hand, might even enjoy that his words caused such widespread rebellion."
Németh, who InfoRadio identified as a "communications expert," said that Hungarians have gotten used to Gyurcsány's theatrical, stilted, and evasive style. CNN's reporter, however, used a different approach to ask his questions, and the prime minister was thus "exposed."
According to Németh, in reaction to the interviewer's questions, most people would have been ashamed of themselves, with eyes downcast. Gyurcsány, however, was unabashed.
"The prime minister's communication is pathological. Having a guilty conscience after lying is what makes, among other things, humans social beings. The prime minister, however, continues to play his usual role." According to Németh, people like this have no "defense system" to stop them from hurting others.
Gyurcsány's exhibitionism is apparent in his exaggerated gestures, Németh said, and he seems to be enjoying performing. "I can even imagine that the current situation, and the fact that his words have caused such rebellion, fans the prime minister's already enlarged ego," she added.
