Hungary's "Valley of Arts" festival to be replaced with "magic"
The "Valley of Arts" festival, which has a two-decade-long tradition in the Veszprém County town of Kapolcs, will be canceled this year and replaced with a festival called "Valley of Magic" to be held between July 25 and August 3, according to the event's official website.
The 20th "Valley of Arts" festival will be held in its 21st year, between July 3 and August 2, 2009, writes hvg.hu. This year's "Valley of Arts" is canceled due to insecure finances, event director István Márta said.
The program for the "Valley of Magic" has yet to be announced on the event's official site. Organizers call for an "interactive" event where creative artists create "what they can from what they receive" and "mesmerize themselves, the participants and the visitors."
According to Márta, the forced cancellation of the cultural event series this year will result in lower income for the state as well as for the governments, institutions and businesses of the six settlements which would have hosted the events again.
