Hungary's UPC Internet to gain new speed in March
The current Internet packages of telecommunications provider UPC will be replaced with faster ones on March 1, reports index.hu. At the same time, limits on downloads by users will be abolished.
Starting in March, the entry-level package will offer a transfer speed of 1.28 megabits per second (Mbps), the medium package 5 Mbps, while those who need an even faster connection will be able to choose between 10 and 20 Mbps packages. The current data traffic regulations pertaining to the Chello service will no longer be valid. For an unchanged monthly fee subscribers will receive the package corresponding to their current price category.
The capacity expansion has already started and is expected to take a few months. By July 1 at the latest, it will be completed throughout Hungary. The majority of current subscribers will notice the changes in March or April.
UPC's main rival Magyar Telekom has also started expanding the bandwith of its ADSL service and will probably complete the process by February 28.
Monortel, which belongs to the UPC group, will also expand its services with the same conditions starting on April 1. Due to the different technology the company uses, the largest package will offer a speed of 18 Mbps instead of 20.
